Introducing Roytec's Design, Supply & Install service
For ten years, Roytec designed façades for the UK's biggest cladding subcontractors. We drew thousands of panels, coordinated with hundreds of architects and engineers, and learned what makes façade projects succeed — and what makes them fail. In 2020 we made a decision: we'd deliver the full package ourselves.
Where we started: design heritage
Roytec was founded in 2015 as a façade technical design consultancy. While most cladding companies start with installation and bolt design on later, we did the opposite — we became really good at designing façades that actually build, for subcontractors who had the installation capacity but needed designers who understood:
- Building Regulations (Part B, L, E)
- BIM coordination and clash detection
- Thermal performance and condensation risk
- Buildability — details that work on site
The problem: lost in translation
When one company designs the façade and another installs it, there's a coordination gap. The designer says “I drew it to spec.” The installer says “we're building to the drawings.” And the main contractor says “I don't care whose fault it is — fix it, and you're both on my programme.” That interface is pure risk, and it usually lands on you.
The answer: one team, one responsibility
When the team that designs the envelope is the team that builds it, the clash is caught in BIM before site, the tolerances are real because we have to install to them, and there's no finger-pointing — it's our design and our installation, so we own the outcome. That's Design, Supply & Install.
